Six hundred former NFL players (including NFL champion Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon) have filed suit against the NFL claiming that pain pills were “handed out like candy at Halloween.” The lawsuit which covers years 1968-2008 alleges that team physicians and trainers dispensed powerful narcotics to mask pain on game days. The players claim that they stood in line before games to be injected with painkillers before each game. They now claim that these drugs have a variety of lasting consequences including muscle and bone ailments, permanent organ damage and drug addiction. The NFL has not yet responded.
